Who must attend the appointment to prepare your taxes?

If you are married, you and your spouse must both come to the appointment.

Both must bring a photo ID and your Social Security card.

What must I bring to the appointment?

  • Photo ID for tax payer(s)
  • A Social Security card for yourself and all your dependents (persons who lived with you or whom you supported but lived elsewhere);
  • All of your W2’s, W-2G's, and other income information
  • Amounts for any other income (tips, etc)
  • All forms 1099 -INT, -DIV, -MISC, -G, -R, -SA
  • Any form SSA-1099
  • Any other tax related information you received in the mail
  • And, if you paid for child care, bring Child Care Provider’s ID number (EIN or SSN) along with the costs you paid
  • Any information you received for your PA income tax return and your local income tax returns.  VITA prepares federal, state and local tax returns for qualified clients. The federal and PA state tax returns can be efiled, the local returns cannot.  If you were a resident of another state for a portion of the year or have earned income from another state, we are able to locate and efile those other state tax returns as well.

You may bring along:

  • Last year’s tax return
  • Let us know if you are a return VITA client and the location you visited previously
  • If you anticipate a refund and you want it to go straight to the bank by Direct Deposit, you will need your Bank routing number and your account number (check book, bank statement or canceled check).  Direct Deposit is fast, safe, and easy (usually within ten days).

PLEASE NOTE:  If any household member does not have a Social Security card, contact the local Social Security Office in advance to obtain proof of their Social Security number. In Lebanon County the Social Security Office is located at:

In order to be sure your tax return is correct, we at VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) try to have three different qualified preparers help prepare your return:

1.  The Intake and Interview Person . . .

. . . will gather from you the necessary ID and forms to prepare your return

. . . will ask some questions for clarification to make sure you receive all the benefits and credits you should receive.

2.  The Tax Return Preparer . . .

. . . will enter the information you have provided and we have gathered from you into a computer to complete your actual return.

. . . will probably ask more questions to be sure we have it all entered correctly and have not missed anything

3.  The Quality Reviewer . . .

. . . will then look over your prepared return (on the computer) one final time to check for possible typing errors and other mistakes to be sure you are receiving all the benefits and credits you should receive.

You will then be asked to sign an electronic filing consent form (which we keep on file) allowing us to file your tax return electronically.

You will also receive a printed copy of your electronically filed tax return for your personal records.

VITA prepares federal, state and local tax returns for qualified clients. The federal and PA state tax returns can be efiled, the local returns cannot.  If you were a resident of another state for a portion of the year or have earned income from another state, we are generally able to locate and efile those other state tax returns as well.
